The design philosophy of Rajalakshmi School of Architecture derives from the definition of Sustainable Development - environmental, economic and social development over generations. With an emphasis on 'Green technologies' and eco-friendly ways of developing the built environment the department strives to focus on urban regions - the engines of economic development while highlighting cultural overtures of architecture and its role in defining the grammar of the built environment.
Study of Architecture is the manifestation of the interrelationship between cultural/social identity; resources available; keeping out gravity, weather and water; and, the utility of the building. The first two paradigms illustrate the relationship with Art, the second and third with Technology and the last with Human Factors.
True to 'Architecture' being a verb, much of knowledge is gained by 'doing' and 'experiencing'. Working hands-on with models and other materials makes learning interesting. Working in a real office environment is a key part of 'doing'. Frequent study tours and educational tours are part of 'experiencing' architecture.
Provide an environment for continuous progress and not one judged by examinations and end semester milestones Provide opportunities to solve real world problems and allow students to interact with practicing architects regularly.
Effective learning begins with great teachers. Faculty members of RSA include Researchers, Scholars and Creative Artists at the top of their game. All our faculty members are dedicated to the advancement of our students, and committed to creating essential connections both within and outside the School in order to reach the highest levels of artistic and intellectual excellence.
